Job Description

The Residence Inn Scranton is seeking a dedicated and experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the day-to-day operations of the engineering division. As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining the property, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe and satisfactory state of repair. In the absence of the Director, you will take the lead in administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the hotel related to engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing plans for property maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Supervise and train Engineering staff in various areas such as Customer Service and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Create and manage Engineering staff schedules.
  • Develop and adhere to the department's annual budget.
  • Participate in financial forecasting and profit/loss review meetings.
  • Implement a preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
  • Ensure inspection and certification of emergency and safety equipment.
  • Participate in energy conservation initiatives.
  • Review guest feedback to address and resolve issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Administer vendor contracts within the engineering department.
  • Handle room maintenance requests promptly and courteously.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies effectively.
  • Support special projects and hotel renovations.
  • Participate in Highgate Hotel programs and Safety Committee.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in facilities management or related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Stationary Engineer’s license if required.
  • Skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work long hours.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Compliance with hotel standards and regulations.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and handle complex information.
  • Attendance at required meetings and trainings.
  • Positive, service-oriented demeanor towards guests and employees.
  • Adherence to Highgate Hotel standards and policies for safe operations.
