Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Medical Lab Assistant to join our Microbiology team at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. As part of the evening shift, you will play a crucial role in our healthcare system, ensuring accurate specimen collection and processing.

Responsibilities

• Promote professionalism and maintain a cooperative working environment.
• Ensure specimens are obtained following laboratory guidelines.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills to relay information about patients or samples.
• Support compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Prioritize workload, assist coworkers, and maintain productivity.
• Follow protocols for specimen packaging and transport.
• Handle patient registration, lab test ordering, specimen processing, and distribution.
• Practice proper infection control, patient identification, and specimen transport.
• Perform drug screen collection and processing.
• Respond to laboratory phone calls and manage phlebotomy draw lists.
• Execute courier duties and recognize emergent conditions.
• Provide phlebotomy services in a professional and patient-centered manner.
• Engage in self-evaluation to improve knowledge and skills.
• Ensure quality care for patients, promote service excellence, and contribute to lab growth.
• Perform laboratory tests, prepare equipment, and assist other lab personnel.
• Complete assigned duties within the lab or the health system.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills and strong customer service abilities.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Certification as a phlebotomist from a nationally recognized agency upon hire.
• Obtain certification as a medical lab assistant from a recognized agency within 2 years of hire.
• Experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
